Yesterday is a romantic historical novel of reincarnation written by Samyann.
Amanda Parker is a young lady just coming out of a depressing and agonizing experience: the loss of her parents, brother and fiance. Resigned to the life of grief, depression and self withdrawal, she meets Mark Callahan, a Chicago police officer, who brings sparks to her cheer less life. With the constant feeling of having known Mark in a previous life, Amanda decides to take a trail into the past which leads to an immense uncovering.
The plot of the story is coined in an exciting manner. It is not just a chronological arrangement of past events but an intertwine of past and present events written in a cause and effect chain. Although it is a trail into the past life of two lovers, there is a great influx of romance.
One thing I love about the novel is the fact that it gives some crucial life lessons such as; there is a connection between the past, present and the future and most importantly, we are the architect of our life's productivity or failure in the long run irrespective of how our past must have been. It is filled with quotes that supports this notion and one of such is;
Your attitude towards the past, present, and future helps to determine what turnings your life will take. It’s going to unfold in its own way, and you can count on this: what you expect will usually happen. If you resign yourself to a life of tragedy, you can expect tragedy
.
However, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because I believe its genre tag "historical fiction" undermines its large romance influence. As a matter of fact, when I first saw the genre tag, I felt I would be reading on the pure history of a particular notable person or event but it was not the case. After a thorough reading of the novel, I feel it's more of a historical romance fiction because it is a mixture of real historical fact and romance element juxtaposed in one. Also, It started in an interesting and eye catchy introduction but the abrupt end was not expected. Very minute errors were present in the book.
I will recommend this novel mostly to people who believe in the power of love and are a huge fan of the romance fiction genre. Although it is romantic, it still brings to cognizance the importance of having your loved ones around you and the fact that we are not promised tomorrow.
