Guardian of Deceit, written by William H. Coles is a 316 page novel filled with orphanhood, heartbreak, love affairs, and murder. Written in 2016 and in third person, Guardian of Deceit follows the story of this young man’s life, Darwin Pinelli. Orphaned when he was a teen, he travels from Pittsburgh to live with cousin who’s a famous football player and start a new life.
The story of Darwin’s journey begins when he is a young 17 year old teen who is aspiring to become a doctor, and ends when he’s just finishing medical school years later. Throughout his life, he meets many friends, family members and lovers. In addition of following the story of this young man’s life, it also tells the story of other characters as well.
Whereas this review must create a boring vibe to this novel, it is anything but. Guardian of Deceit is a beautifully written novel. It’s a captivating story that held my attention from beginning to end. This book was very easy to read as the words flowed very nicely.
In addition to the novel being beautifully written, I also really liked how the author wrote this novel in third person. And even though the novel followed the story of a young man’s life, the novel also touches base upon other characters’ storyline. Following other characters’ storylines gave the novel a richness to it.
I only have a few complaints. First complaint would be the title “Guardian of Deceit” is not a very appropriate title for the book. The title is very misleading to the plot and the book itself as it implies that guardian of the main character is not who he seems to be, when the guardian wasn't really a major character. There was little to no spelling errors and it’s obvious this novel was edited more than once. The second complaint is that there was hardly a plot, or the plot was hard to establish. The novel seemed to only follow character storylines.
This novel was 316 pages in total. It is split up into 5 different sections with 62 chapters and a page separating each chapter. There is also a few pictures in the novel for visualization purposes.
Overall, I will rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars. This is a very beautifully written novel and I would recommend this book to others. It’s a very light and easy read that doesn’t touch upon difficult or hard to read subjects. However, this novel is not an action packed novel, so I wouldn’t recommend this novel if you’re looking for something action packed.
