Toni the Superhero written by R.D Base is a children's book targeted for 0 - 4 years old children who just started out reading. The author is a mother of three children and because of them, it became her inspiration to help other mothers as well for their children to start reading. She introduced the main character as a superhero but depicted as a normal boy who does normal things in his everyday life. She emphasized that not all superheroes fight bad guys, but also help others in the simplest way, which is a good starting message for the young children.

What I can say about the graphics is that it matches well with the storybook. It wasn’t particularly outstanding, because if it was, it would be targeted to older readers as well. It feels like the illustrator used the artist software MS Paint though, since the quality of the colors and the brush settings are also quite similar to the one MS Paint has. The only thing that I can complain about the graphics is that the high saturation of some colors, for example, Toni’s cape. Highly saturated bright colors can be quite harmful to one’s eyes so it’s best not to be exposed in such a long period of time.

The sentence structure used by the author in this storybook is actually very simple and can be understood by the targeted audience. Since the subject is always first, the predicate statement always follows right after and this is a good way as an introduction to the English grammar, which is what I like. Although I am already proficient in the skill of reading, I can visibly imagine that the children who reads this storybook can actually learn to read in just a matter of time.

There was one thing, or more appropriately, one word that really bothered me as I finished reading the story and it was the word “terrific”, that appeared on the last page of story. The word “terrific” actually has a double meaning, both negative and positive. In the negative sense, the word “terrific” means causing terror, while in the positive sense, it means wonderful. Although the meaning of the word in this context is actually positive, it might be misunderstood as something else just as how I misunderstood that word in a moment. Instead of using the word “terrific”, it would be more appropriate to use the word “good” or “awesome” so that there is a clear definition of who Toni really is.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of its simplicity and its simple sentence structure which can be very much understood even to babies. Although there are little things that bothered me in the story, it doesn’t particularly affect the overall rating of the book. I strongly recommend this to the mothers who wants to let their child start reading and learn along the way that reading is truly fun.

Your review of the book was interesting, particularly your rating.
"Although there are little things that bothered me in the story, it doesn’t particularly affect the overall rating of the book..."
You do mention a little more then a little critique in your review. Reading your review makes me think the book isn't 4 star quality to be honest. You mention the dislike of word choice and the graphics.
