Heartaches: 3 Bad Boy Vibes by H.M Irwing is the third and final novel in the series titled Heartaches. The book comes under the genre of romance and features very detailed and graphic scenes of a sexual nature. The story begins straight after the previous novel Heartaches: 2 finishes, providing the reader with a good sense of continuity.
The novel opens with a cunning plan, carried out by protagonist Anna and her friend Suzi. They hope to make Anna’s Aunt Bella cancel her wedding to the horrible Peter Preston. The narrative goes on to explore the secret relationship of Rafael and Anna as they deal with the obstacles presented to them in their daily lives. Multiple marriages occur, providing a sense of hope and positivity to the mostly unpleasant events that happened in the past two novels. Along with their entourage of friends and family, Anna and Rafael battle with the issues surrounding the Preston family. They have to try to stop an elaborate plan regarding drug smuggling along with dealing with enemies that they seem to meet at every turn.
A steady build of tension throughout the book leads to the big action packed finale at the end of the novel. The author does well at bringing the plot to a conclusion, giving the reader satisfaction and enjoyment at seeing the good guys win. The reader sees Anna, the protagonist throughout the three novels, finally standing up for herself and fighting back against those who had hurt her. I very much enjoyed the ending of the novel, although it did seem rather rushed. It provided the reader with the classic good beats evil ending but the scene in the warehouse appeared to be over fairly quickly. More detail into whether or not Brian was lying would have been something that I would have liked to see. The exploding of the house seemed to be something the author added on to make the ending more action packed although it didn’t add much to the narrative. I found myself confused at the reasoning behind including this scene.
Although this book is not a long one it contained a very good mix of romance and thriller. The inclusion of the erotic content added something more to the narrative and it was very well written. It did not over power the initial storyline and was placed well in the storyline. The action packed scenes at the end of the book were also well written although the dramatisation of the big events in the novel was sometimes too much and made me feel uncomfortable at some points.
Due to the erotic content and the female protagonist I would say this book is more fitting for female readers. The eroticism makes it suitable for readers that are aged 18 and over although I would not recommend it to anyone under that age. The graphic scenes could be seen as triggers for those dealing with mental illnesses so I would strongly recommend reading reviews on the book before reading to see if this is the right book for you. Overall the story is well written although I sometimes felt that the author went off on a tangent, providing the reader with unnecessary content. For these reasons I would give this novel a rating of 3 out of 4 stars.
