And Then I Met Margaret by Rob White

They say that the best teacher in life is experience. Everything that we learn, whether it be good or bad, have an impact on our lives. We learn from the things, and people we meet. We learn from everyone who we mingle with and who we spend time with no matter how short the time is. And we are going to meet hundreds and thousands of people in our lifetime who will share to us their own experiences. These people will give us small pieces of advice and even a piece of their lives as we share them our own stories. In one way or another, each of them will leave their own footprints in our lives as we leave our own footprints in theirs.

And Then I Met Margaret by Rob White is a wonderfully written memoir about his life. It tackled the lessons that have helped hone his beliefs and made him who he is today. In this book, we were presented with various stories detailing his childhood, his life in their town, his college days, and his teaching career until he finally made it to the real estate business. Each story was perfectly weaved into chapters which opened up with a myth the author once believed. And at the end of each chapter, the negative beliefs he had were changed into positive ones. The author grew up in a small town ruled by norms which have been there for years. People in his town, including his family, were quite afraid of change and in this book we’re going to see our author break free from the traditions and out of his prison cell into the path he was truly destined for. Therefore, be ready to break out of your own comfort zone, and be ready for your own life transformation.

At first glance, I thought this was a book about romance because of its title. But I was wrong. This book opened a lot of doors for me. It empowered me to plant positive ideas in my mind so that I will yield positive results in the end. This is the kind of book you won’t want to put down once you have started reading. Indeed, it is a page-turner because each page is filled with lessons in life. The author had a very entertaining style of writing which reflects his fun character, a visionary filled with hope and positive emotions. Starting at the dedication page of the book, I was already hooked by the author’s charming way of presenting his thoughts.

I consider this book a self-help motivational book which is very relatable to our everyday lives. It is something that can get you through a stormy day or during those days when you feel like the world has given up on you. This book reminds us to be grateful for all the small and big things in life. I remembered the quote, “Great things come in small packages.” This book enlightens readers that in life, the people we are going to encounter will teach us valuable lessons we need at that specific moment of our lives. It doesn’t actually matter who or what they are, they are meant to be there for a reason. This book encourages us to reflect on our day to day lives and helps us realize that each day is something to be grateful for.

I don’t have anything bad to say about this book. I enjoyed the breath of fresh air Rob White has brought into my life as I learned about his. There were just a few errors which are not really that big of a deal for me. The name ‘e. e. cummings’ was not capitalized. The punctuation comma is missing in the sentence “…the joy of my friends except when the campus closed on holidays.” The word ‘who’ is missing in the sentence “… they’d peg me for someone didn’t belong." A quick reassessment would definitely solve the errors noted.

I give this book a score of 4 out of 4 rating. It very much deserved to be featured in a previous book of the month. This is the kind of book people should be reading to help uplift spirits and get them inspired in life. As I read it, I couldn’t help but smile. It has so much positivity it could brighten an entire day. I highly recommend it for all types of readers. Surely, readers will be able to pick up various teachings from this book which they can apply in life. As Mr. White introduced us to his Gurus, this book is a Guru itself. And Then I Met Margaret empowers people to believe in themselves and be the best they can be. It is a must read.
