Review of Exodus

[Following is a volunteer review of "Exodus" by Jean Hackensmith.]
Intense, realistic, and surprisingly powerful!
I started reading Exodus without big expectations, but I was completely blown away. The story takes place in the near future, where scientists discover that a neutron star is on a collision course with the solar system and will render Earth uninhabitable within decades. From there, the world launches a desperate race to build spacecraft and save a portion of humanity.
The plot is extremely well structured and gripping from beginning to end. The writing is clear and engaging, with scientific explanations that make sense but never overwhelm. The main character, Garrett, is a scientist struggling with deep moral dilemmas, and the supporting cast — especially the U.S. president — is well developed and adds weight to the story.
This book balances action, human drama, political tension, and science perfectly. It also raises important questions: Who deserves to survive? How do we handle ego and power in the face of extinction? There's a sense of urgency throughout that keeps you turning pages.
The ending is a bit quick, but still consistent with the overall arc.
