Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks, is a reasonable well written book with excellent organization as to topics. The book is divided into three sections: Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks. His research is excellent, however, some of his writings are slightly slanted to pharmacopeia favor and opinionating when writing regarding complementary and holistic foods and practices. In writing this book sometimes chapters or sections overlap to show the potentiality of a discrepancy.

Tips: The first section of Dr. Tavels health book address every day concerns with food for fitness, vitamins versus supplements virtues and myths. The introductory chapters discuss olive oil, arsenic to fish oil, foods that help cardiovascular disease, diet, and exercise. These first thirty-two chapters give a person a good start on the road to health and wellbeing.

Myths: Chapters thirty-three through fifty -two address the various myths of the permeate the airways, internet, and various publications. The evidence presented to counter the everyday followed myths, has been examined scientifically and presented in these chapters. For example excerpts from one chapter: “Because of this obvious biologic improbability in this era of evidence-based medical science, the premise of lie detection by polygraph has fallen under a cloud of skepticism, justly considered as pseudoscience by most of the scientific community66I The writings then go on to present another side: The American Polygraph Association (APA) is a professional organization for polygraph examiners that has complete faith in the accuracy of the test.” Then evidence to back this last statement is covered in the publications text.

Tricks: This is the third and last part of the book by Dr. Tavel. The last ten chapters are devoted to the scheme or schemes employed to sell the public on the various types of foods, oils, and various concoctions in the form of oils, pills, supplements, powders, and types of wearable and durable equipment. Everything that will fix your libido or strengthen your back with our therapy or doctor’s approval. These schemes are designed to take your money with the end results of what could be deemed as dangerous to your wellbeing, even perhaps, death or disability.

The book, covers most topical interests and is helpful. A book worth reading. I rate this book a 3 out of 4 because it does seem to favor science more than holistic practices that have endured for centuries. This is a good book for thos who are looking for alternative ways to Western Medicine.
