[Following is a volunteer review of "Beyond Despair" by Shirley Hoisington.]
Beyond Despair by Shirley Hoisington was a beautifully well-written story of love and family. The writing and storytelling has me give this book a five out of five stars. There were no noted errors in grammar or punctuation, which speaks to the author’s attention to detail. I could not put this book down and do not have any critiques for the book. I finished this book in a day. The story captured the true bond between the twin's relationship and the depths they will go to for each other. I was able to relate to the main characters very easily. The relationship between Miranda and her twin Cindy is tested as they both are in love with the same man. There are so many twists and turns throughout the book that I was unsure with each passing chapter how things would turn out. I am not familiar with Oregon, but the author did a great job of describing the many different settings throughout the book. It was easy to visualize each detailed scene description.
The book mainly follows Miranda’s heartbreaking journey of despair and heartbreak to ensure that her twin Cindy is happy. Cindy is mostly unaware of the cause of Miranda’s sadness. Throughout most of the book, you read about Miranda’s sadness as she tries to navigate relationships on top of a new career. Miranda eventually experiences happiness after much distress. She is an unbelievably strong and resilient woman. The progression of all of her emotions was well written and gave you a true feel for the life she was living.
This is a true romance novel without all the erotic sex scenes that are often a part of romance novels. I would highly recommend it if you love a good romance novel. The ending did not disappoint and thoroughly wrapped up each storyline in a way that matched every character.
