Pancake Money by Finn Bell is an interesting crime mystery novel. It takes us on an adventure with detectives Bobby Rees and Pollo Latu as they try to solve a serial killer mystery.

Bobby and his mentor, Pollo, are a great team. They find themselves wrapped up in a case of a few murdered priests. After the media has reported the killings, a task force is assigned, and the detectives choose to keep investigating on their own.

How many more will die? Can these two detective friends uncover the motive, or will the killer keep them in the dark? With no known motive and zero evidence, the duo is at their wits’ end trying to get a step ahead before more murders occur.

Bobby’s Forensic Psychology professor, Ann Bowlby, is a great addition to the novel. I enjoyed her character immensely. The character introduced an interesting theory on how to can get any living thing to do what you want. To learn what that is, pick up this book and settle down for an afternoon of reading.

The author created a wonderful tale. The characters were written with good depth and personality. Bobby Rees is the main character, and the story is told from his point of view.

I was a little disappointed that I figured out who the serial killer was rather quickly. I like a good mystery to baffle me.

I rated this story a three out of five because the mystery didn’t leave me feeling surprised. The overall story and plot were well-written. I did enjoy reading this tale, so it wasn’t a total disappointment.

The author included “Slightly Biased Mostly True Things” at the end of the novel, which were interesting tidbits of the resources used to create the story. I thought that was interesting to read.

The story is written with an accessible reading style for diverse English languages that makes it too complex to point out typical American spelling and grammar errors.

The novel contains graphic descriptions of violence and profanity.
