Heartaches
Anna Simmons has gone through a lot even in her not too advanced age. She had firstly at a tender age lost her biological father Daniel Walters at the age of ten and onward from that moment since the marriage between her step-father and her mother had been hell, ranging from assault of all sort which rubbed on her one way or the other leaving her feeling reserved, underserving and feeling inadequate. When she met Matt Preston he became her solace and her source of raising out of the once solitary, dull, and shady live she lived. But whilst she thought there had been a miracle, a change for her and the feeling of trust and love, it all became a mirage, a hurting, a break and breach of trust, love and what’s not. From a virgin she had soon became a victim of rape by the Preston (all three of them) she is wounded, drugged, and emotional deteriorated. Would she ever recover from this trauma?

Matt Preston, Jason Preston and Anna are co- students at the vocational college following the transfer of their father Peter Preston. Filled with all manner of evil devices they had gotten a deal with the devil’s son Brian Simmons, Anna’s half-brother the murderer of their father. Brian had incurred a somewhat debt with which Anna was to be used as bait to redeem this debt. A handsome seemingly innocent Matt Preston had quickly and subtly become Anna’s boyfriend of six months introducing her to sex and then dashing her hope of love and trust replacing it with hurts and rape.

Rafe had joined the army in hope of recovering from the emotional trauma which he had growing up. His step father had severely beaten him up and killed his mother in his presence. Rafe had lived with guilt of not been able to save his pregnant mother. He joined the army in hopes to get justice and also for self-recovery then and there at the Syrian camp he found his way to freedom from guilt had just been only a figment, a thought indeed. He had even been more traumatized, assaulted and a sex slave to his boss Eric Dayton. The struggle to freedom and justice had now taken a new phase has Rafe had returned from the Syrian camp home in hopes of filling charges against the corrupt drug Lord Eric Dayton but this fight seems so fierce as Eric is not just any man but one with influence and affluence in the army. Would Rafe win this battle, could he ever be free from this trauma? On meeting Anna Rafe began to see light in the tunnel. There is hope for love and in this walk to getting justice.

Heartaches is a book I really enjoyed reading because it is interesting, thrilling, intriguing and a realistic story that depicts the decadence and the gravity of man’s inhumanity to man. It is full of events of trust breakers and what’s not. I really enjoyed this book because it is intriguing, well-written, suspense filled, and realistic. It gives insight into what humans and society at large has degenerated into. I rate the book Heartaches 4 out of 4 stars because it is well-characterized, well-structured, and well spiced up with standard vocabularies.

I feel this book would have been more enjoyable if Rafe had been able to put the Preston and Eric Dayton behind bars for charges of rape assault and illicit drug trafficking. However this book is particularly strong in areas of characterization, the characters were well spelt out, the blend and infusion of everyday reality. I really enjoyed the book and it is highly recommended.
