In today’s society, there are many fads on health that may or may not work, some similar, some different. Though these have a broad range, they all stand on one common ground: they always gather a myriad of followers on their bandwagons. Those who try to steer clear of those bandwagons have nowhere to escape to once those of higher positions turn these fads into truths that all must abide by, and it starts to trickle down the systems. They told that there are limitations of what they can and cannot do concerning health, lest they want to step into the caste of unhealthy. In Health Tips, Myths and Tricks: A Physician’s Advice by Dr. Tavel, presents an unbiased expose of the misconceptions of these fads with hard-hitting, medical advice and intuition.

In this nonfiction novel, three main topics are discussed: TIPS about health and wellness, MYTHS and common misconceptions therein, and the TRICKS that utilize stratagems designed with the intention to take your money for useless, or dangerous Snake Oil products or information. The many myths about health that is warped around society today, open doors that lead to the overpricing of authentic products or spend large sums on unnecessary products that may be no good.

With the aid of what Dr. Tavel labels as “snake oil” salesman, he illuminates the schemes utilized by salesmen and the promotions of infomercials. Tavel provides honest answers from the viewpoint of a mainstream physician, with no motive financial wise, to an audience who might be falling victim to these myths about health. Throughout the novel, Dr. Tavel does not try to diagnose or treat any one individual and leaves it up to the individual's personal physician. What he does is distribute scientifically based information that has been proven to work and vice versa as well as ways to save money.

As an individual that has fallen prey to the spoken myths about health, it was truly appreciated to have an eye-opener and develop awareness with this useful information as well as the advice and common sense solutions that usually tend to be overlooked. It is not that most of the advice is new, but it is that most individuals do not stop to contemplate whether the outcomes are in favor of them or not. Reading this book brings back that unconscious knowledge and formulates awareness to the simplicity of what truly works to contribute to benefits health and what are just myths about health.

When first approaching this book, it may seem very dense in its reading, but Tavel structurally categories his chapters by topics that make it easy for the audience to follow along with, ergo, making it a breeze to read. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
