Requiem: Book 2: Exposed is the second book in the dramatic thriller series by Taveyah Lashay. This sequel builds on the characters and plot introduced in the first book, Origins. Each chapter offers the reader a different character perspective, providing a multifaceted view of the story. The characters are raw, vulnerable, and adaptable. Some of the characters are intentionally crafted to be unlikeable and are deeply flawed, which adds depth to the storyline but also makes it challenging for the reader to empathize with their struggles.

The dialogue is raw and unfiltered, mirroring the characters’ personalities. The grammar leans into authentic Southern slang with lines like, “Damn. He fly as hell,” capturing the expressive and casual tone of the dialogue. This book is recommended for adults as it contains graphic sexual content, a great deal of profanity, and extreme violence.

The story takes place in Tampa, Florida, and continues the developments and consequences from Origins. It is recommended that readers start with the first book to fully grasp the timeline, plot details, and evolving dynamics between the characters. These interwoven stories create a complex tapestry of connections that enhance the reading experience.

Requiem: Book 2: Exposed begins with Dhorian, a successful lawyer and protégé to the mayor, attempting to uncover secrets buried in his past. Tampa’s mayor, Paul Christen, is a corrupt politician with a history of indiscretions, bribery, and conspiracy—all of which threaten to ruin his political ambitions as skeletons from his past resurface. Tatiana, a 21-year-old trying to care for her aging grandmother, struggles with painful memories and physical scars that continue to haunt her. Verdell, an assassin longing for a quiet, normal life, is now on the run from powerful figures who have turned against him. Tiffany, an investigative journalist, is determined to uncover the truth behind a series of murders involving women found dead with missing organs. These characters are on a collision course, leading to explosive consequences.

I give this book a 3 out of 5-star rating. While the story’s intensity and character-driven narrative are commendable, I feel the book could have benefited from better editing. The frequent use of profanity and the overwhelmingly villainous nature of many characters leave the reader searching for a bright side or justice for the heinous crimes committed and covered up. Despite these drawbacks, the gripping suspense and layered storytelling make it a compelling read for fans of dramatic thrillers.
