Review of Truth and Evil

[Following is a volunteer review of "Truth and Evil" by G. Edward Martin.]
I rate Truth and Evil by G. Edward Martin a 3 out of 5. This book portrays an internal religious battle of a German soldier during World War II. The soldier faces reliving the same event repeatedly to see how his decisions changed how the event unfolds. He has no option other than to answer to God for decisions he faces and figure out how to be better moving forward. He is allowed to truly see the situation through different viewpoints to observe the full gravity of his decisions. Although this is more of an extreme example, I feel this is similar to the internal battles we all face. This story contains a compelling message that choices made in life have real consequences for yourself and others. One small thing can have a monumental impact on your life or the lives of others than most people realize.
I liked the overall message portrayed in this book. It is geared towards a religious individual, as God is a driving character in this story. In this book, there are multiple mentions of sexual assault and that may not be for everyone as it is discussed in detail. It is hard to include both of those topics in the same story since some religious people avoid sexual content. Meaning those two categories may narrow the audience. I didn't give this book a higher rating because it somewhat glossed over the horrendous events of World War II, and focused on such a small subset of what took place. There may have been a better setting choice that still would have gotten the same message across. I didn't feel overly moved by this story with it being on the shorter side it was hard to immerse into the story or connect with the characters. Thankfully the editing was done well and I found no spelling errors in this book.
