Anna Simmons has a broken past. She did not believe in heaven anymore and thinks that hell is good enough for her. Rage reigned inside her. There have been days where she preferred to lock herself in her room because that’s the only place that offered the slightest light in the otherwise dark tunnel she had narrowed her world into.
Rafe Brown was with the army. Haunted by his past, he returned to Melbourne hoping he could start over and move on with his life. Until he met Anna…
Anna’s first impression of Rafe was overpowering. His size alone was large enough to intimidate anybody. But yet, she saw warmth, understanding and immense kindness. Anna saw in his gaze that they have something in common.
Rafe convinced Anna to get out of town. Anna did not really like feeling helpless anymore. So they both left as planned.
Rafe knew that the moment would come where Anna would want to know about his past. That is the same day that he would also have to demand the truths of his past. He knows that Anna deserve to know what happened to him.
Two broken past, two normal people who have been recovering, and two people falling in love. Question is, will love be enough to keep them together?
The best part of the book is when the two broken souls shared what happened to them in the past and immediately understood what each one had to go through. It only showed the human side of each character which helps the readers understand better the pain, endurance and hope of both Rafe and Anna. The book mirrors the vividness of the situation where the readers get to picture what’s going on, which makes it more realistic. It will make the readers feel the reality of the situation.
Some area for improvement for this book is the character of Anna. Because Anna can be overly dependent, it can get irritating to the readers. Also, the switching from one situation to another needs to have some order. There is what we call some transition from one situation to another, instead of just jumping around where readers can get lost of what’s really going on.
I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. Because of the twists and turns in the story, I wanted to keep reading and find out what would happen to Anna and Rafe, what’s the next ordeal that they would need to handle and when will the pain ever stop. The story sounds so real because it depicts a lot of emotional tension between two lost souls who found each other and naturally, fall in love.
