Guardians of Deceit written by William H. Coles is a fiction tale of a young boy called Darwin Hastings whose parents had died and was staying in Pittsburg with his Aunt. However, Darwin one day left Pittsburg for Hamptos to stay with his cousin Luther Pinnelli as his new Guardian. Luther Pinnelli was a famous football player who made millions from endorsements as celebrity. Darwin believed his Cousin Luther Pinnelli will support him to acquire his needed education and join a medical school to become a doctor like his late father. Luther Pinnelli lived in an expensive mansion surrounded by a twelve walled enclosure with three, two-story, townhouse-shaped, connected apartments with a swimming pool, a big garage, driving range and three golf pitches. Luther Pinnelli was a lavish spender who really never cared to support Darwin to acquire his school education. Luther Pinnelli was not even ready to give Darwin his allowances for upkeep. He instead advised Darwin to work for him in order to earn his upkeep allowances from him. The allowances were from Darwin`s late parents inheritance that had been forwarded to Luther by Darwin`s Aunt in Pittsburg..Darwin was later assisted by Dr. Malverne a neighbor of Luther to secure for him a vacancy in a private school called Exeter where Darwin continued with his education. Darwin had met Dr.Malverne during his flight from Pittsburg.

The book is not a fast paced novel which brings in detail the characteristics of Darwin as an assertive, kind, humorous, aggressive and obedient young man with ambitions to achieve his goals in life. Due to his aggressiveness and humorous nature, Darwin became Luther’s backup chauffer after getting a training for driving from Laszlo who is Luther`s senior security officer. Darwin`s kindness and obedience was admired by Laszlo, Dr. & Mrs. Malverne, Sweeney who was Luther`s fiance, Granny, Coral and Helen who were Malverne`s daughters, Pearlstein who was Darwin`s home English tutor and Dominique who was Darwin`s colleague in the Medical School.

While the book narrates interesting episodes regarding the characteristics of actors, the author reveals the traits of Luther Pinnelli who loves himself and has little consideration for others. For instance, he has little consideration for Darwin`s education and Sweeney`s status as a wife. Luther had a lot of money which he spent lavishly on drinking and partying. However, he later became a victim of huge debts which he could not settle resulting in divorce with Sweeney and sell of his property.

The book has an intriguing title which attracted me to find out the reality of Guardians of Deceit. The author uses Luther Pinnelli as Guardian of Deceit who never cared about Darwin`s life. However, the book has some grammatical errors like, “Find something to make do”, “Luther told him he would learn him good about how to make money”, “She had tired of people she found uninteresting”, “It don`t look good”, “You`re opinion`s good enough for me”, “when Laszlo arrive after ten that night, Darwin knocked on his door”. This implies that the book was not edited well as required.

My rating for Guardians of Deceit is 3 out of 4 stars because of its thrilling tale though not well edited to bring out the gist of the entire fiction. However, the in-depth description of the characters by the author is impressive to make readers get entertained and read along. The book has good rhythmic flow from one episode to another to make it good for fiction and non-fiction readers to enjoy.

Good description of Luther and Darwin. I thought the book was interesting, too. Thanks for your review.

Yes, good description. But multiple spoilers alerts are also included.
And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. (Revelation 20:12 (NKJV) :reading-7:
