We must be careful in our decisions. Every decision we make has a consequence, so we must be very careful to avoid making bad decisions that will harm us or the people around us in the future.

McDowell by William H. Coles tells the story of a surgeon named Hiram McDowell. Dr. Hiram McDowell always manipulates people to get what he wants in his career and daily life. Dr. Hiram McDowell always cares about his success and does not care about the impact it may have on the people around him, leading him to make decisions for his benefit. The author separated the story into two parts. In the book's first part, the author discusses how the surgeon made selfish decisions and how they affected his children and his relationships. This was discussed when his son Billie impregnated Tasha. Hiram McDowell told his wife Carole to make arrangements for Tasha's pregnancy to be aborted, refusing to accept the emotional trauma it would cause. In the book's second part, despite his efforts to start a new life, the author discusses how Hiram McDowell's past decisions affected him. Dr. Hiram McDowell meets Jamal, who is selfless and lives a good life of helping others, making him feel guilty about his past. A reader must read the book to learn more about Dr. Hiram McDowell with Jamal, Billie, Tasha, and Carole and how he tried to make peace with his daughter Sophie.

The book has some positive sides. It taught me the importance of making good choices. When making decisions, we must consider their impact on us and the people around us. If we make decisions that will only benefit us, they may harm us in the future, using the experiences of Hiram McDowell. I love that the book will benefit a lot of people, such as those interested in the medical profession and those who want to learn from Hiram McDowell's experience.

The book has some negative sides. While reading, I found many mistakes, which affected my comprehension. If the book goes through another round of editing, it will be easier for readers to read and understand.

The life of Hiram McDowell teaches readers the need for people in society to be selfless. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. I am deducting one star because I found more than ten errors in the book. The book was not professionally edited. I recommend it to readers who want to read a book on the importance of being selfless and making the right choices.

The editing errors will drive me nuts. But, the idea of this story, which preaches selflessness, has me intrigued. I think this is an important value that is not promoted enough these days. The medical backdrop is also interesting. Thank you for this concise and informative review.

Your insights on decision-making and its consequences resonate deeply. Dr. Hiram McDowell’s manipulative nature illustrates the profound impact of selfish choices on relationships and family dynamics. The narrative serves as a cautionary tale about prioritizing personal success over ethical considerations and the well-being of others.

Selfish people might make money but it is sometimes on the cost of their family life and I fully agree that they eventually suffer when their own family members and society start hating them.
The book appears to stand on a solid theme and would be a good read.
Thanks for a good review.
