The book Sigfried's Smelly Socks by Len Foley is children’s book which describe about Sigfried's - the narrator's book. The narrator asks the question to reader about what can be the reason because of which the book stinks. He then talks about various smells he gets as he goes through his book. The description of these smells is what this book all about.

The Sigfried talks about various smells and smelly items including rotten banana, leftover various food items including pizza, bread, potato, ketchup, spagetti, mustard sauce, peanut butter, jelly chunks, chewing-gum and then things like pee, diaper and the pile of his unwashed smelly socks. He ends the book on lighter note. This book can be good read for the children who are learning to read. The children who can-not read and if their parent is reading this book to them, can find book interesting because of the pictures in this book.

The book is written in the format of a rhyme and this format continues till the end. At each page, there are lots of pictures which explains the words besides them. The pictures and colors used in pictures are attractive, perfectly describes the text written and keep children engaged in the book. Because of these colorful pictures, one can visualize the description given in the form of rhyme. Also, when describing about different smelly socks, the narrator distinguished them with the colors and the fabric patterns. The images depicts them exactly how they were described. These illustrations are big in shape and so perfect for children that they can even try their hands on drawing using these pictures. Author has mentioned that these illustrations were created by him on his iPad Pro.

However, couple of times, author has used words which might be difficult to understand by kids since they require very strong vocabulary. As far as story is concerned, there is no formal story in this book and we don't understand the point of the book at all at first go. It is just meant for humor for kids.

I will give this book 3 out of 4 stars. This will be good book to teach children about various smells and things which can make a book dirty. While talking about the smelly socks, it describes them in the colors and the colorful pictures of those help kids understand colors and fabric patterns. It might indirectly teach children about importance of cleanliness as well.
