Author R. F. Kristi introduces the reader to Inca and her furry family and friends in Diary of a Snoopy Cat. Our protagonist is Inca, a confident Siberian cat with big aspirations. The reader follows Inca and a group of quirky animal friends as they attempt to solve a mystery in this hilariously exciting children's book.
Inca's family includes a human they call Mom. Mom thinks that she owns the animals and the furry friends allow her to go on believing it. The furry members of the family include cats and a hamster. Each member of the family processes a unique personality. The family moves to London from Paris, and makes new friends including a few dogs. One of Inca's new friends helps his world-famous detective owner. This inspires Inca to become the world's best and smartest cat detective. This cat is determined to make this dream come true and she has the confidence to make it happen. Inca seizes the opportunity to take on her first detective job when two of her new friends travel to the Himalayas, to search for a missing friend who had failed to return from an expedition. Her first case is the bewildering incident of Mr. Finchley's missing will. Inca records the details of this adventure and the family's Christmas preparations in her diary.
The author’s clever use of context clues is sure to enrich her young readers’ vocabulary. This book creates a fun way to teach children about teamwork, kindness, and friendship. There are no grammatical errors throughout the text. The story comfortably flows from one scene to the next making it pleasant to read.
Illustrations are a vital part of any children’s book. Jorge Valle illustrated this book. These illustrations complement the story very well. Each picture is well executed. Each character's illustration gives them an engaging personality.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book has great illustrations. The pictures will engage and delight young readers. The story is well written. The themes and lessons of determination and the importance of friendship are clear and presented in an understandable way.
