[Following is a volunteer review of "Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign.]
I absolutely adored reading this book. I rate this book a five out of five stars. The geographical locations were vivid and lively. I loved living vicariously through the characters in this book and visiting different places. At one point, I could feel the warm sun and smell the fragrant flowers. I could feel the apprehension from being underground, and in a stuffy dorm. I felt the wintry blasts of the wind as the weather whipped my hair all over the place as we searched for the scientists. I was there. The characters were real and relatable. This was by far one of my favorite reads. The storyline was real, romantic, and adventurous. This book, in a couple of different parts, could easily be considered a romantic thriller. As a literary critic and enthusiast, I felt this book's conclusion was perfect. I would not add or subtract anything from this story. The entire book was a wonderful read the whole way through. I rate the sexual content in this book a one out of five. There are only a couple scenes where intimacy is involved, but regarding the literary etymology and descriptions of the scenes' vividness, we are left to wonder and imagine on our own. Regarding the typos and errors in this book, I can proudly admit that I found zero. This book was so excellently edited that though I tried to find typos and errors none could be found. Profanity was used in this book. Normally, I'm not a fan of the use of profanity. However, this book would not be the same without it. As a result of the use of profanity, the characters are brought to life and are my friends and family. They resonate much better and on a deeper level because of their passion.
Overview: This book takes you on a journey of a young man who doesn't quite fit in, but avoids standing out. We see his life before meeting his person, and how the darkness in his life grows into light because of her presence. We also learn about their genealogy and the role genetics play in their relationship. We meet family, friends, foes, and indifferent side characters. All of whom have realistic and charismatic personalities. Soon after discovering the truth about his genes and his genetic inheritance, he must choose to fight or hide from the scientists who want to destroy him. With his person beside him, will he choose to fight by her side or hide to protect her? I hope you read and enjoy the outcome.
