Religion: What if…ours had won? A book written by Dele Owolowo is historical fiction that mainly focuses on religious history in Nigeria. The author’s main aim is to shed a different light on Nigeria and the domino effect that would have occurred if African religions had won in the religious war of history. The author dives deep into the sea of consequences of modern-day religions and their beliefs.

The book serves as an eye-opener as to how easy it is to abandon something old for something new. Africans in general, or in this case, Nigerians, were quick to drop their traditional beliefs and divinities and adopt Western religions. Each chapter of this book gets you questioning whether religious change was an advantage or a disadvantage.

For easy understanding, the author uses fictional personifications of characters to elaborate more on traditional history and historical legends.
The author was able to integrate the Nigerian language with the English language without hindering the flow of the book. I found it very advantageous that the author included Standard English translation when Pidgin English dialogue occurred for an easier understanding of the story.

I would recommend this book to people who are open-minded and ready for new spiritual ideas. It would also be of historical educational knowledge to theologians, history professors, and history students. The book raises many questions about some Biblical accounts and the Quran, which are controversial.
However, I would not recommend it to fanatically religious people, as this book would challenge their psycho-spiritual sensibilities.

What I didn't like about this book is that, even though it is historical fiction, the fictional elements of the book were not well represented. The fiction is meant to bring the reader back on track and act as an attention grabber, especially in the dialogues the author wrote throughout the story. I, therefore, rate this book 4 out of 5.
This book was well edited, even with the presence of two different English styles.
Dele Owolowo has done a good job of capturing both the spiritual and historical points in the book.
