Caleb J. Boyer. Island Games “Mystery of the Four Quadrants”
Lasting Press: 615 NW 2nd Ave #915

Island Games by Caleb j. Boyer is a book packed with adventure and lessons to life’s challenges. It’s about two best friends, Mathew and Ryan, who wake up on the shores of a mystery island with no recollection of how they got there, but with the determination to either signal for help or find their own way off the island. They soon realize that someone might be behind there sudden appearance on the island. But they are more concerned as to why they were chosen and what else was planned for them.

The author wrote this book in the simplest of language that both teenagers and adults can read, enjoy and understand. The story line is precise and clear without boring you with unrelated issues and details. As the two best friends venture into the jungle to find food and water, and a way off the island, they encounter challenges that require team work to overcome. With each accomplished task, the boys are rewarded with food packets and bottles of water, just enough to get them through the next challenge.

The island is divided into four quadrants, each with a different climate and environment from the other, but all having one thing in common, the volcano. The volcano and the rooster that wakes them up each morning are the reminders that they are still on the same island. Upon completing the challenges on each quadrant, the boys are rewarded with a key symbolizing that particular quadrant then they are mysteriously taken to the next region.

This adventure has helped the characters value their friendship, the little that life has offered them other than complain about what they don’t have. It has also helped them appreciate their parents and the lessons they taught them while growing up, at least those they can remember and have proven to be useful to them in facing the island challenges. The "island games" have tested their limits and proven to them that they can overcome any obstacles thrown their way, especially when they work together.

This book is simply amazing, the fact that it was written by a twelve year old Caleb j. Boyer is beyond astonishing. The most powerful mystery of this book is the suspense at the end which the author turns into an inspiring life lesson. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It’s an utterly delightful adventure that is both cohesive and engaging all the way.

I agree that this book is amazing for a 12 year old to have written! That's just crazy! I also read this book and wrote a review, if you want to check it out. But I thought the ending was disappointing. Were you annoyed to not know why they were there or why they had dreams where they were in a lab?
