Dallas Brennan is the friend everyone needs in their 20s. Social Skills Success for Young Adults is a book that delivers what it promises: a concise guide to different social situations that every one of us encounters today, both privately and professionally.

How do you start a conversation? How do you build a network? What is the best way to write a professional e-mail? How do you create a profile on social media? Don“t worry, this author has your back and a backpack full of ideas! Because we all know it - being representative, outgoing, funny, and rememberable is not always the easiest of tasks, when you are just starting in the world of work and representation. I especially found the chapter about social media very useful, because it is such a vast environment, with rules of its own, yet a big part of everyday life.

The book is easy to read and will most likely have you highlighting a sentence in every chapter. At the end of each chapter, you will also find a recapture of the main points, which makes the book easy to use as a go-to when needed. What I found especially nice was that the book is very much written for the target audience, e.g. young adults. The text is not too academic, and the examples feel realatable.

I give this book 4 stars out of 5 because although I thought it extremely clear-structured and well-edited, I did miss a little theory on social anxiousness. A deeper understanding of what happens in the brain and body in certain situations- and how to counteract those reactions- might make it easier to understand why social skills seem to come so easily to some, while not to others.

However, the author is a kind voice ready to share helpful tips and examples, and the message is clear: everyone can learn social skills and ways to succeed in social interactions.
