This was an entertaining look behind the scenes of the real estate world of the 80s and 90s. The author has collected a variety of stories from her own experience that vary from wildly funny to almost shocking. Much of this book felt like watching a soap opera or reality show, with so many characters being very rich and very concerned with appearances. The timeline seemed a bit difficult to follow, as the stories did not seem to go in any type of order, and some story lines were broken up across multiple chapters. The romance aspect didn’t seem to gel with the rest of the book, as it was the only repeated mention of the author’s life outside of her work as a real estate agent, but it did add an emotional element to the book as a whole. The author’s depictions of her friends and coworkers were thorough, although somewhat 80s-coded, and the friendships were presented as genuine and supportive. The author shows great insight into how her family and upbringing impacted her as an adult, and parts of this could almost double as self-help content. I noticed several minor typos and grammatical errors throughout the book. Some of the stories felt a bit redundant to me, and I found myself bored with much of the second half of the book. The author has consistently good comedic timing throughout, and I was pleasantly surprised by the nonjudgmental attitude displayed toward addiction, financial hardship, and sex work. The content of the book was pretty PG, with some sexual acts mentioned briefly and most curse words edited out. The way the author described some of the characters would likely not be politically correct today, but in keeping with the time period, they were inoffensive. I would expect this book to be most appreciated by people who like reality TV but sometimes wish it was a little more tame. Overall, this book gets a 3.5/5 from me.
