Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign is an engaging young adult novel that captures the reader’s interest with its blend of fantasy, science fiction, and romance. The story follows sixteen-year-old Adam and Carly, two teenagers with special abilities from a mysterious Russian lineage. The narrative is set in Piure, California, where Adam struggles with his own issues and feelings of isolation. His life changes dramatically when Carly, a new student, arrives at his school. Their developing relationship is central to the story, as it helps Adam confront his own identity and the challenges he faces.

Adam is a troubled teenager who feels disconnected from the world around him. He views his peers with suspicion and struggles with his feelings towards his mother. Carly’s arrival in his life brings a breath of fresh air and a sense of hope. Their bond is not just romantic but also a source of strength for Adam. As they uncover more about their heritage and the dangerous group of scientists known as the Iksha, they realize they must work together to protect themselves and others like them.

What I liked most about this book was the character development. The author does a great job of making Adam’s struggles and growth feel real. Carly’s character complements Adam well, providing a balance to his darker side. Their interactions are both touching and exciting, and the challenges they face together add depth to their relationship. The plot keeps moving with plenty of twists and turns that make the story hard to put down.

There is nothing to dislike about this book. The story is well-written, with a smooth flow and engaging content that holds the reader’s attention. The characters are well developed, and their emotional journeys are portrayed effectively. The book is also well edited, with no noticeable grammatical errors or inconsistencies.

In conclusion, this book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It is a well-crafted, captivating read that combines fantasy and romance in a fresh and exciting way. I would recommend this book to teenagers who like books in the Sci-fi genre. The characters are relatable, and the story is compelling, making it a must-read for fans of young adult fiction.
