A Caribbean honeymoon gone wrong serves as the setting for Dorothy May Mercer's exciting roller coaster, E M P Honeymoon, which combines romance, suspense, and high-stakes action. As Kelly McBride and Sgt. Tom Turbulo go on a routine shopping trip, their dream vacation rapidly turns chaotic when Kelly runs into a suspicious man. From what appears to be a routine transaction, there is a worldwide conspiracy that threatens to use electromagnetic pulse attacks to cause havoc over North America.

The book excels at keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Every chapter builds on the last with an unrelenting pace. With intricate descriptions that let you feel the sun on your skin and hear the waves breaking in the distance, Mercer's writing effectively takes readers to the Caribbean. But there's a sense of anxiety throughout the whole story because of the sharp contrast between this idyllic location and the impending menace.

All of the characters are well-developed, but especially Kelly and Tom, whose relationship is put to the test by the terrifying situations they end up in. The genuineness of their exchanges and their obvious chemistry make their journey even more captivating. The addition of Kelly's bodyguards, Agatha and Sharon, as well as CIA Special Agent Steve Spalding, gives the ensemble more complexity and enhances the narrative with their distinct views and skill sets.

Without overloading the reader with technical terms, Mercer deftly blends espionage and technological themes. The seriousness of the situation is conveyed while also making the technical implications of the EMP threat understandable. Impressive attention to detail is used to mix action, romance, and technical detail without making the plot seem flat.

The book does have certain shortcomings, though. Occasionally, the storyline may appear somewhat complicated, particularly when balancing several storylines and characters. While some readers may find the turns and twists a little overwhelming, others may like the unpredictable nature of the writing.

The book has well-executed editing, with no grammatical mistakes, which makes for a better reading experience. Mercer's universe is easily navigable, with a seamless storyline and organic dialogue that invites one to immerse oneself.

Readers who enjoy action-packed mysteries and romantic thrillers will find E M P Honeymoon to be an engaging book overall. From the very first page to the very last, this book captures your attention and doesn't let go. This book has great characters, beautiful scenery, and an interesting story. I would give it a rating of four out of five stars, with one star taken away for the plot's sporadic intricacy.
