"Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast” by Kalliope Barlis is one of the best guidebooks targeting every category of golfers willing to enhance their skills. In doing that, the book provides the reader with a perfect guideline on the game of golf, with the emphasis made on both mental and physical training. The book is quite strong in presenting the development of a consistent pre-shot routine, which the author claims is crucial. Some of the common pitfalls encountered in golf are addressed in the book and ways of tackling them. Each piece of advice within the book comes with a personal story and the author’s experiences in the sport, making the book easy to relate to and apply.

One of the most praiseworthy things about “Play Golf Better Faster” is that it is easy to comprehend. The author makes it quite easy to understand the strategies discussed in the book, and therefore the book is valuable for professionals, amateurs, as well as novices in golf. Also, the aspect of mental training is well developed in the book, a facet often overlooked in golf literature that primarily focuses on physical techniques. The book is also well structured so that each chapter follows on from the previous one, allowing for a smooth learning experience.

Although “Play Golf Better Faster” is packed full of useful information, I have identified several flaws in the book. A possible weakness is that the book may not be detailed enough to suit those players who are no longer beginners. One other minor flaw points to the fact that certain elements of the book might be too close to the author’s personal experience, which is always engaging, which might not be universally relevant. For the reasons of these mentioned flaws, I would deduct a star from my rating, giving this book a four out of five stars.

Play Golf Better Faster is a valuable guide for any focused golfer, at the beginner and intermediate levels. It will prove to be very valuable to any golfer interested in improving her or his score in this game with a systematic and uncomplicated approach.
