[Following is a volunteer review of "The Legacy of Job's Wife" by Cynthia Koelker.]
Have you read the story of Job in the Bible? If so, you would find this book more interesting and relatable. When I was young, a priest told me the story of Job, and as I read this book, I recalled the story the priest shared with me. The Legacy of Job's Wife by Cynthia J. Koelker tells the story of Job through the lens of his wife, Ix'ises. Job and Ix'ises were close friends who shared many fond memories during childhood. The author takes readers on a journey through Ix'ises’ life, from her early childhood to her marriage to Job and their family life together. The author carefully follows Ix'ises’ life through the highs and lows, the good times and the bad, weaving these details into a fascinating and engaging narrative.
As a Christian myself, I have high praise for the author for including certain bible quotations in this book. I loved how Ix'ises slowly but surely grew into believing in God's existence. I also liked Job's patience with Ix'ises in explaining God's existence to her, as it was not rushed. Job's patience underscores to readers the importance of respecting others' beliefs and understanding their journey. Job doesn’t rush or pressure Ix'ises but instead takes the time to address her doubts and questions thoughtfully. I also loved seeing how Job consistently transferred his good morals and certain behaviours he had learnt from his father to his sons. To me, it was remarkable, as it demonstrates how healthy and strong Job's relationship with his sons was. Readers can learn from this portrayal the importance of passing down positive values and maintaining strong familial bonds. I want to also add that I admired the courage and bravery Ix'ises showed when faced with adversity. Her ability to battle through all these challenges is something readers can learn from.
Overall, I give this book a perfect rating of five out of five stars for the author's storytelling skills. I was drawn into this interesting plot and found it hard to put the book down, as I was always eager to know what would unfold next. I had no dislikes about this book, so there was no reason to deprive it of a perfect rating. Not only that, but I found no grammatical errors, as the book was edited exceptionally well. I give massive credit to the author for this, as it shows the author's admirable commitment to ensuring that readers have a wonderful reading experience.
