No matter what point in your life you currently find yourself, you will find a bit of inspiration in the motivational piece And Then I Met Margaret written by Rob White. Whether you are lost and searching for a positive force to push you forward, full of potential and just starting out in the wide open world, or reflecting back on your own life of experiences, this piece truly has a lesson for everyone.
Unlike many books, And Then I Met Margaret has a unique structure. Each story is preceded with a myth that Rob believed before his experience and is wrapped up nicely with the new lesson that Rob learned. I initially feared that the pattern may feel repetitive, but I was happily captivated with each new situation in which Rob found himself. In fact, the short stories were entertaining, and I flew through the book very quickly.
What I most enjoyed was that even as Rob became a successful teacher, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker, he discovered that some of the most important lessons that he learned in life came from some of the most unlikely of teachers. Many of the lessons came from everyday interactions with normal people. Rob may have actively sought out some experiences by flying in a biplane, taking a lesson on car racing, running with the bulls through the streets of Spain, or even traveling to Tanzania to observe a Maasai village, but some of his most important lessons came quite unexpectedly from a caring aunt, custodian, and even a child named Margaret. These unexpected interactions were the ones that captured my interest and gave me the understanding that I should never underestimate the influence and lessons that I can learn from those around me.
I rate this work 4 out of 4 stars. The book was well written, there were very few grammatical errors, and overall I genuinely enjoyed it. Rob has managed to tell a story of life’s lessons with a touch of humor that really resonates with the reader. It is a relatively quick and easy read which provides a nice break for any busy adult. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is searching for a source of positivity that can be best be found in a motivational memoir.
I enjoyed every moment while tagging along on Rob’s journey of self-discovery. I was able to chuckle along at his amusement, felt my cheeks redden at his embarrassment, and felt sympathy at his losses. Most importantly, I could even reflect on my own experiences in life and appreciate the possibility of learning a valuable lesson with each trying situation that I find myself in.
