And Then I Met Margaret written by Rob White is a non-fiction story that follows Rob’s life in his road from rags to riches. It is an inspirational book that takes the audience on a journey through specific times in his life where he learns important lessons that ultimately help him succeed in his adult life.

Rob White writes about growing up in a small town where young boys were expected to follow in the footsteps of their fathers and work in one of the two factories in town. Rob describes himself as a person who always pushed himself to do more than he was expected to, even when he was young. For example, instead of finding a job with one of the factories, he decided to expand his horizons and go to college. This is the point in his life, he says, when he first began following his heart and found that inner happiness must begin with him.

Rob tells the story of “ordinary gurus” he meets who teach him important life lessons. He writes of Pete, a custodian whom he learned a valuable lesson from in college. Pete taught him that when you're stuck in between two worlds, it is best to step out of your comfort zone and build a better life for yourself in doing so. During a summer job in college, he was taught by Rose Kennedy that you should always pursue your dreams, even if you don't look the part. Young adults who are well off and look like they are going to be successful usually are just the opposite because they don't trust themselves and end up settling for less than they should. This instilled a greater hope in Rob that he can do just as well and even better than rich students his age who attend Ivy League schools. This was a lesson he passed on to a student of his who ended up owning a business of his own years later. When he became a successful real estate agent, Rob learned how to see the positive in everything, a hard thing to do especially after he lost a multi million dollar deal. He had just started his first major real estate business deal in California when the largest quake in over 80 years struck, ruining the foundation and streets to the homes that were being built. Although he lost millions of dollars, he found a way to think positively, learned from his mistake, and moved on from it.

This book was very well written and had very few typos. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was an inspirational true story that leaves readers reminded of the control they have of their own lives to be positive in the face of hardships and to follow your dreams. I really enjoyed the different stories that the author told and how he explains the lessons he learned at the end of each chapter.

Rob White does a wonderful job making a motivational impact in the reader’s life while keeping the context of his book lighthearted and humorous. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy read and who needs some motivation and inspiration in their life.

Thanks for the review - I am reading this book at the moment and have similar thoughts to you. I did find some of the lessons a bit trifle and simple.

Thanks for the great review. I did appreciate the writing and the organization of the book. I had some problems with the author's arrogance and his seeming inability to integrate his own wisdom. Check out my review if you like. Thanks.
