Diary Of A Snoopy Cat by R.F Kristi is a detective series for children between ages 5 to 14 years. The detectives are an unlikely group of pets, including cats, dogs and a hamster. Inca, a Siberian cat, is the leader of this group of detectives. She dreams of becoming the world's smartest cat detective and starts a diary to record her successful snoopy adventures.
It is 12 days before Christmas and Inca and her family are eagerly awaiting the holidays. Monk, Inca's friend, is a Russian Blue cat who lives next door with world famous human detectives, Solo and Hobbs. He brings news that Solo and Hobbs are going off on a mission to find a friend who went missing on an expedition to the Himalayas. Inca and her friends greatly admire Solo and they all hope that he is successful in his mission.
Monk also introduces them to Boss, the neighborhood Rottweiler dog, who has a problem. Boss and Ned, the human Boss lives with, are in danger of losing their home to a wicked relative because of a missing Will. Inca agrees to help Boss on the condition that Boss treat all cats with respect henceforth. Though initially reluctant, Boss agrees to the condition and thus begins Inca's first case as a detective! Does Inca succeed in saving Boss's home and family? Does Solo find his missing friend? Follow Inca and her friends through their hilarious escapades as they try to solve the mystery.
The book is a humorous and enjoyable read with fantastic illustrations. It also carries some important lessons for its target audience. The value of teamwork, friendship and sharing is beautifully highlighted. The interaction between Inca and Boss shows how, with a little respect for each other, people who are different from one another can work together to solve a problem.
There are a number of pet and human characters in the book, but the author manages to bring out each of their distinct personalities in a concise and interesting manner. We learn that Inca is the smart ambitious cat, Fromage a greedy goofball, Boss an aggressive dog and Mom a gentle and kind humanoid. However, this is also the only problem in the book--it becomes a little difficult to remember all the characters and their names.
I give Diary Of A Snoopy Cat 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to anyone looking to introduce their kids to a fun, well written detective story or simply searching for an interesting bedtime story to read to their children. It is also delightful to learn that the proceeds from the sale of this series is donated to the Cat Protection Trust of Sri Lanka.
