[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies” by Matthew Tysz is a novel that presents to us a man named Galen. The author grabs our attention quickly when we get to hear the story of an Emperor of Lullabies. Through his storytelling techniques, he skillfully develops his plot around aspects that have bedeviled our society, such as magic, political upheaval, and corruption. And through the adventures of this character named Galen Bray, who is described as impoverished and comes from a war-torn region, the author paints a vivid picture of what the future holds for this young man, who is eager to attain self-determination in the kingdom of Voulhire.
The author also talks of the king of Voulhire, who is trying to bring to life a seaside town that was destroyed by two corrupt leaders. The aspect of power is amplified through the life of a wizard, whom we are told is guarded by an entire army of soldiers on a remote island. We are also told of a chancellor who has no regard for the King and his assets, a situation that resulted in a serious conflict of interest.
I liked this book because of the fantasy it has and the author's ability to transmit his imagination and make it appear real in the reader’s mind. As a result, I am excited to read through the other books in this series and see how far the author can go in developing characters like Galen Bray and Eldus Alderman, among others.
I would recommend this book to mature readers who love fantasy novels, given that it contains instances of improper language not suitable for underage readers.
The book didn’t have any instances of grammatical or typographical errors, and I enjoyed reading it. I give it a 5-star rating out of 5. I enjoyed the fact that the entire setting was full of adventure and fantasy.
