WatchDogs: Abnormal Beginnings by Mike L. Junior is set in a world where Dr. Drake Nathan's cybernetic chip has cured major diseases and altered human DNA. Over time, children began to be born with these altered genes, leading to the rise of the Technology Era, followed by a societal collapse into the Apocalypse Era. Individuals with extraordinary abilities, known as abnormals, are born.

The story follows two orphaned abnormals, Kaarina and Monty, as they journey to Xenora in hopes of joining the Berserkers Guild, where they seek safety and a sense of family. They meet Cole, who has been tricked and betrayed, making their mission even harder. As they navigate this dangerous world, they must use their unique abilities to survive and find refuge.

I enjoyed this book because it explores the struggles of the characters as they try to survive in a dangerous environment. The author describes the risks they face and their fight for survival very well, especially in the danger zone. The characters, including Kaarina, Monty, and Cole, form a strong and supportive group, each with a difficult past and a hope for a better future. New characters like Warren, Jax, and Amanda also add to the group's dynamics.

What I really liked about the book was how well the characters were developed. Kaarina is brave, especially when she fights off enemies in the forest, and Cole’s strength in the face of betrayal and loss is very inspiring. The unique abilities of the characters, like Kaarina’s foresight and Monty’s reality-warping power, make the story even more interesting.

One thing I didn’t like was that sometimes the story felt a bit too intense and overwhelming with all the dangers and conflicts. It might have been nice to have more moments of calm to balance the tension.

I found over ten errors in the book, so it is not professionally edited. Because of these errors, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to anyone who likes intense, character-focused stories with lots of action and suspense.
