Can I Be Frank? (Book 1) is a novel written by Rob Wyatt. It is centred around an expatriate Catholic priest, Father Francis (or Frank, which he prefers) who comes all the way from England to be a parish pastor somewhere in Florida, America. He is full of drama and reputable for being disorganised and upsetting things. His coming to America is a classic tale, more like watching comedy on TV.

Finally getting to America and settling to begin his vocation , he finds himself in the centre of church politics and he is expected to bow and scrape to the powers that be to keep his parish funded and running, because that is how they have been doing it all these years.  But he is not going to play along and he dearly pays for it.

In the middle of the trials that are consequences of his stubborn refusal to maintain the status quo and bow to Baal, certain secrets were unraveled that will lead to him laughing last. I can say that the book is a true example of the saying, "No Cross, no crown".

What do I like and or dislike about the book? I love everything about the book, absolutely! For me, there is nothing to dislike or hate it for. Rob Wyatt did a great job. The book is well written and except for two or three errors which are obviously typographical, the book's editing is excellent. How the author weaves hilarity into the fabric of the story is commendable. I had good peals of belly laughs and smiles as I read through it. I also like that it exposes me, being a non-Catholic, to the Catholic ways of worship, their slogans and some of their inside jokes. I really did enjoy the book so that I was disappointed when I got to its end because I felt it ends abruptly. But I was comforted when I remembered it is Book 1 in its series.

So, since the book is this awesome (as I have explained above) and because I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, I am giving it 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend the book to Christian priests, Catholics and non-Catholics alike. They will glean one or two lessons from the story.  It will also appeal to everyone who loves good humour; to the heavy-hearted, for good laughs and light-heartedness; and to everyone who loves a good read.

Good review. I like that you made a point that you recommend it to Christian priests, Catholics and non-Catholics alike. I normally avoid books about religion, but I just might give this one a go. Thank you for your review.
