Children are reminders of our childhood life. We learn new things as we read, see and observe. Puffy and the Formidable Foe are written by Marie Lepkowski, Ann Hannon and Margaret Hannon for enhancing children’s capacity of reading, exploring and observing. This is now on their third edition and they provided instructions before reading this to the little ones.
The story is about Puffy the cat that loves adventures in searching for a rat but found a mole. He played, but suddenly a stranger came, named Kitty. What happen to Puffy when meeting a stranger? He came home and was put in a basin. Why? Puffy learns that staying at home is the safest place of all.
This book will help children love their homes and by not easily putting their trust to strangers. This book ignites me as well that there are plenty of ideas to be played at home to avoid strangers outside. Self-discipline is a must to ensure safety like Puffy who made a vow to avoid stranger.
Puffy and the Formidable Foe will also help the children understand, to learn from their mistake. Going away from home without permission is not a good character of a child. It will open their mind to be careful in talking to stranger because some strangers may have negative motives.
I like the colors and strokes of the drawing because it blends according to the concept. It easily captivates children’s attention and basically will love the book. The book has 16 pages and it is very easy to read. The words are written in a shape like a cloud that makes the pictures look interesting. You will notice an underline rhyming words like hole and mole, vow and meow, and, sore and door. The authors provided a coloring page of Puffy as a reward of a child who listens well.
I like the story even if it is short but full of life lessons and fun. The writing style is good and I haven’t found any error or misspelled. I recommend this book to parents and to those people who loves storytelling for the children. This book is also good as a bedtime story. I refuse to have a negative comment because it is very easy to read. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is easy to understand for ages 4 to 6 and even 3 years old can catch up and understand the drawing along with the explanation of the parents.
