Review of Opaque

[Following is a volunteer review of "Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign.]
Opaque: Scion Saga One by Calix Leigh-Reign is a captivating blend of romance, supernatural powers, and dark family secrets that takes readers on an exciting journey. The story centers around two teenagers, Adam Caspian and Carly Wit, whose lives become intertwined in unexpected and thrilling ways.
Adam is introduced as a troubled 16-year-old boy dealing with antisocial tendencies and disturbing thoughts. He strongly disdains everyone around him and refers to people as 'animals.' Then Carly, a new student with a mysterious aura, arrives at his school and sparks a change in Adam. He finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. Initially put off by Adam's rude behavior, Carly soon becomes intrigued by his complexity. Their developing relationship is not just a typical teenage romance; it is intertwined with revelations about their extraordinary abilities and a shared heritage linked to a secretive and powerful bloodline.
One aspect I enjoyed about the book is how the beginning of each chapter is introduced. It was easy to notice when a new chapter started due to the unique design of the first page of each chapter, which stood out from the rest of the pages. Another positive quality of the book is that it made me think since it is filled with suspense. This is especially true after moving to the next chapter, but the author didn't reveal the outcome of a suspended scene from the previous chapter. This fact also made me want to keep reading to find out more about what happened.
There is nothing I disliked about the book. It is professionally edited, as I came across a few errors. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is an excellent choice for fans of young adult fiction who enjoy a mix of romance, supernatural elements, and mystery. The story is captivating, the characters are relatable and well-developed, and the plot is full of unexpected twists and turns. While it may not be suitable for young readers due to some mature content, older teens and adults will find it engaging and thought-provoking. Highly recommended for those looking for a book that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
