The novel "Catch a Falling Star" by Keith Julius narrates the heart-wrenching tale of a woman who fights with drug addiction, leading to the loss of custody of her children. The book revolves around the life of Aleisha Turner, a young woman who is a heroin addict and supports her addiction through prostitution. She is married to Mark Bradley, the father of her youngest child, and has three children. Despite making empty promises of quitting her addiction, Aleisha's life takes an unexpected turn when she suffers a heroin overdose and lands in a rehabilitation center, initiating her challenging journey of recovery.

Initially, Aleisha is resistant to the treatment and cold towards everyone trying to help her. However, as the story progresses, Aleisha realizes that she needs to get her life in order, not just to save herself but also for the sake of her children. The book also explores the story from the perspective of Beverly Stone, a Court Appointed Special Advocate, responsible for ensuring that Aleisha's children are living in a stable and healthy environment while their mother is in recovery. Beverly's perspective allows the reader to delve deeper into the world of inner-city residents in North America.

The narrative brings to light the many twists and turns one can experience on the path to recovery from drug addiction, as seen through the eyes of the main character. It also depicts how addiction can negatively impact not just the addict but also their friends and family. The novel is adorned with relatable real-life situations that could shatter people's willpower and self-esteem, but it is handled with finesse. In conclusion,

I fully recommend this book, which I would rate 5 out of 5 stars. The book has left me with a better understanding of drug addiction and how circumstances like domestic violence, and childhood trauma, can push someone toward the dark path of addiction. The book was well edited with no errors. This book is a must-read for adults interested in the drug addiction field, studying it, or just wanting to learn more about it.
