Who Told You That You Were Naked? by Williams E. Coombs is a non-fiction christian inspirational book with ten well written chapters. It is a journey into the events through which sin and death entered the world, the consequences man has and will continue to face over the years and the answer to man’s predicament. To better understand the concept of sin, salvation and faith, critical building blocks are needed which is a return journey to where it all began, the garden of Eden. Each chapter handles a different theme still building towards the understanding of the introduced concept. The writer delves deep into themes such as sin, death, faith, salvation, walking with God, spiritual warfare, God’s rest and others. In re-examining Eden, Coombs uses a lot of Bible coloured vignettes to tell the story rendering the book truly captivating. His and his late wife’s personal testimonies of their walk with God are used over and over to drive points home. At the end of each chapter, mind searching study questions that are incisive of the chapter just handled are presented. The reader is enabled to think deeper, render answers thereby delving into a better understanding of the book.

The book stands out to me as a very useful tool in my walk with the Master I share with Pastor Coombs and many others who believe in and walk with Jesus Christ. While reading it, it was like learning the ropes from an older brother with greater experience. I have learned a lot and my eyes have been opened to various aspects of my walk with God which previously lay dormant. A better understanding of the law of sin and death, the flesh or the acquired knowledge of sin and death were shifted into the floodlight in my heart.

What I loved most about this book is the fact that faith must go in line with God’s will to be effective. Man cannot coerce God to do his bidding. When I chose to read and review this book was just the right time because its pieces of information came in handy in my church’s Bible study sessions. Also for most of the book his language is quite simple and easy to understand. He exhibits some humor that makes the book interesting. I was also impressed with his own story of new birth, how he invited Christ to sit on the throne of his heart and how he encourages those who have not done so to do it too. He testifies that the newness of life has given him a sense of wholeness and belonging that his heart had searched for for years. The writer had me completely up until the last chapter which delves deeper into theology.

Some issues he discussed were a bit over my head but that may just be me not having yet reached his maturity. Others may comprehend him completely. There were a few grammatical and typographical errors which can be easily overlooked. Because I truly enjoyed and learned a lot from this book which was beautifully presented and organized, I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to as many as thirst after God and His ways; those who long to delve into the origin of the fallen state of man and the subsequent depravity of man and the world at large. This book can serve as an enlightening tool for church Bible study. It is filled with Bible coloured vignettes that make it truly captivating bringing Bible characters to life and making them easily associable.

This book sounds similar to one I have reviewed recently: Roadmap to the End of Days by Daniel Friedmann. I don't know if you have read it, but I totally recommend it to you since you enjoyed this book. Thanks for such a great review.
