Review of Launchpad Republic

[Following is a volunteer review of "Launchpad Republic" by Howard Wolk and John Landry.]
Have you noticed that many of the world’s top companies began in the US? Have you ever wondered how so many start-ups that began in the US became successful? Do you have an interest in how American history and politics have impacted the founding and running of businesses in the US? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you should read “Launchpad Republic: America’s Entrepreneurial Edge and Why It Matters” by Howard Wolk and John Landry.
This book highlights how the political system in the United States has paved the way for new businesses to grow and flourish. It contains stories of several well-known businesses that started in the US and explains how the economy and the government supported and did not support certain businesses at certain points in history. These examples are also contrasted with those from other countries that have governments that are more restrictive of new businesses and tend to favor incumbents over upstarts.
I found the information about the early political system in the US to be particularly thought-provoking, and I enjoyed the examples the authors cited throughout the book. Examples of businesses included A&P grocery stores, AT&T, Uber, Apple, and more. They discuss the change from a focus on small businesses to big businesses that occurred during the late 19th century at the time of the industrial revolution and the entrepreneurial revolution that has been occurring more recently.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The content was very interesting and well-presented, but the book could have used an additional round of editing. I found several grammatical and typological errors throughout the book that were distracting and detracted from the overall reading experience. Despite this drawback, I would still recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the world of business.
