Tales of Urath: of Dragons and Drakes, written and illustrated by Arthur J Dorety III, is a fantasy novel that revolves around mystical figures such as dragons and other magical creatures of fiction.

There are varying storylines led by different characters, all peaking at the grand theme of the story. In this captivating story, you find divine beings that guide the balance in the mortal realm, godlike immortals, and, of course, the physical realm. Urath, the center of this story, is cohabited by a mix of these mortal creatures aforementioned, with magic predominantly leading the core of society. Of course, wherever magic is, expect some mischief close by, and this is the same in this story, as we see different characters, ranging from humans down to immortals, trying to achieve the top spot in the chain of dominance and control using magic, greed, and sheer will. The story climaxes as different entities plot their ways to achieve their goals; as their paths intertwine, the story hits the sweet spot. Will we see good overcome evil or evil overcome good? Take a look at the pages of this book and find out for yourself.

I enjoyed reading this book so much that I couldn't stop until I finished it. The author tells a story so beautifully, you can live it up with the characters. I enjoyed the twists so well; it was full of suspense with trump cards popping up at unexpected places. The author did a good job with this book. The author tried to pit good, evil, and selfish in a battle, and I liked how the different entities in the story interrelated at different levels to achieve the general theme of the story.

For constructive criticism, I think the book is fine. I have no real issue with the choice of characters or how the book was laid out. Although I will recommend the author reduce the number of variants of dragons and drakes, I mostly tried hard to keep tabs on the different species of creatures. A not-very-attentional reader could easily get lost.

I will rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. This is for obvious reasons: the book was expertly delivered. I feel anyone who enjoys fantasy books with magical creatures will find this book captivating and a very good read. The drop in rating would be due to the many different variants in one creature species. I believe a book should be easy for anyone to follow without needing to think hard about what a character stands for. Either way, the book is a good read.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy a magical-themed, suspense-based book.
