There are struggles and painful experiences that entangles in our current situation but we can overcome it triumphantly. From Drift to Shift is the best book for all, especially when someone experienced low self esteem. Jody Miller is known as the "The Work Happiness Expert." She is the CEO of C2C Executive Search and Strategic Management. She loves diving deep into people's stories and help find their dreams. She is the author of this book that gives insights to the readers. Foreword by Brad Feld who holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an early stage investor and entrepreneur since 1987. He is active in several non-profit organizations and currently chair of the National Center for Women and Information Technology.

Miller quoted statement from a book entitled "Supersurvivors" that there are five factors helps a person to be optimistic. First factor is hope that success will surely come, it even cures worst illnesses . Second is personal control, by controlling ourselves over matters add on to success. Third is social support, support from family, friends and anonymous kindness of other people increases joy and hope. Fourth is forgiveness because it can remove all heartaches so that we can move on step by step then totally releasing from it. Lastly, cultivate your spiritual life for it gives strength, increases faith and through that you will know that you are blessed beyond circumstances. The five factors are the foundation of all testimonial story of this book. With a theme like this phrase which gives hope to everyone, "there is a theory that suffering leads to success."

I am inspired by their unique testimonies on how they survive from nothing to millions, hopelessness to success and from broken-family to founding a sweet home. "When you come from nothing, there's really nothing to lose," this testimony is common when someone experiences poverty. Poverty is a big challenge to survive. And, survival motivation is really helpful even if it seems impossible.

I like this one when Miller said, "I wanted to live as me and not what everyone else expected me to be." Focus on what you believe to reveal your purpose. By discovering the purpose of our life is a good start to change poverty. Then, we uncover the true meaning of happiness and success. Changes happen when a person strives for a change even if, how rude or lazy he or she might be. Our behavior on different situation shapes us for who we are. Furthermore she said, "always remember that someone cares for you and we must never stop trying what our heart desires for."

This book exposes ideas about people that suffered much yet become successful. A person that loves story of other people will enjoy reading this book. Along with images that best describe the author's point. Miller also encourages the power of the mind by imagination. Just imagine who you want to be, because our brains had the capacity to direct our body in order to achieve it.

It is well edited and the author highlighted insights to ponder. This book divided into four parts. Part one, why shift? Shift is to change your way of living to something better which you deserve most. Part two, when to shift? Shift when you see signs and do not keep on neglecting it. Part three, how to shift? Our choice matters and get ready for the pressure. And, remember that the key of shifting is your actions. Part four, after the shift? Always bear in mind that titles, fame, money and luxury is not the real happiness. Happiness came from the inside when you have good relationship to God and to the people closest to your heart.

I don't like that some helpful ideas and information are written after Appendix. Because the common understanding of the reader when reaching appendix is the story already ended and beyond that is less important. I strongly give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book suits to every type of people regardless of their profession and race.

I am always having second thoughts about reading this book because I'm afraid that this might be too dragging. However because of your thoughtful review, I might check this out and read it for myself. I liked that you mentioned the quotations that inspired you and how you expounded on the overall theme of the book. Hoping to read more reviews from you. Great job!
