Review of NADEEM'S JOURNEY

[Following is a volunteer review of "NADEEM'S JOURNEY" by Sherine Anniruth.]
Sherine Anniruth’s memoir on her son, Nadeem, themed Nadeem's Journey, has been an emotional rollercoaster. Published in 2019, Sherine shares the story of her son, who died five months after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. I cannot imagine the emotional turmoil the author went through. From experiencing the joy of being a first-time mother to seeing her son grow into a young gentleman, beat all odds, and achieve his dreams, which are threatened and shut down in less than half a year. Telling this story must have made her relieve those moments, and buoy isn’t that painful?
From Nadeem’s journey, I have learned that life is truly short. Tomorrow is not always guaranteed, and as such, we have to make the most of today. Though the author has repeated some parts, she is good with the details. She can remember the tiniest details of the specific day when a particular event occurred, the time of the occurrence, and pictures to support it. To imagine that the pictures were meant for Nadeem’s journal after his recovery only to end up in his memoir is something to recon.
The book is a 4 out of 5. The story's flow is seamless, from Nadeem's conception to his final breath. Sherine has included all the specific details and is very good at bringing out the emotions experienced in each moment. However, the book contains some typos and repetition of sentences, hence the four stars. The book would have been perfect if it had been given a final edit.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Nadeem’s Journey to anyone seeking to learn how to go through a hard time, especially when dealing with a terminally ill relative. It is a story of pain, love, support, and care. A story of searching for hope where there is none and finding comfort even when, at the end of the day, things keep falling apart. It shall be well; it always does, even in death.
