Calix Leigh-Reign's Opaque is a thrilling novel that takes readers on a ride into the life of a young boy named Adam, the main character, who undergoes a series of unsettling physical and emotional experiences. Adam's inner turmoil and struggles with societal norms are vividly depicted as he navigates his relationships with his family and peers. The narrative delves into Adam's conflicted feelings towards his mother, JoAnn, and his attempts to reconcile his desires with societal expectations.

Adam's dark thoughts and actions escalate into a terrifying situation where he abducts a girl, intending to harm her but ultimately causing her death in a panicked struggle. Amidst all this chaos, Adam's life takes an interesting turn when he meets his new classmate, Carly. Initially, Adam's behavior towards Carly is complex and multifaceted, driven by a mix of emotions and inner conflicts. At a surface level, he is annoyed by Carly's presence in his thoughts.

However, beneath this annoyance lies a deeper conflict. Adam is conflicted about his feelings towards Carly. On one hand, he is relieved that Carly doesn't seem to like him, as he sees it as a way to repel her from his presence. On the other hand, he finds himself drawn to her and desires her presence, even though he resents this desire. However, they both develop feelings for each other and end up in a relationship.

Adam's life takes another unexpected turn when he finds out that he is adopted and begins a quest for his birth parents. Carly suspects a connection between Adam's surname and a name she finds in a family journal, but she hesitates to reveal it to Adam until she's certain. Eventually, a DNA test confirms Adam's Eastern European ancestry.

Carly reveals to Adam the truth about his ancestry and abilities. Carly explains the history of their lineage, the persecution they faced, and the unique powers they possess. How Adam accepts his new identity and powers, how Carly and Adam adjust to this new norm, and how their relationship is affected by all the complexities are known by fully reading the book.

This book is truly unique and fascinating. Through Adam's journey, readers are invited to explore themes of identity, societal pressures, and human relationships. The setting of Piure and the high school environment provide context to Adam's experiences, highlighting his sense of alienation and isolation. Carly's character is also portrayed exceptionally well. Her complex internal struggles, moral dilemmas, and the difficult decisions she must make as she navigates her relationship with Adam and her own identity as a descendant are highlights of her character. Personally, I'm very drawn to this book because it presents a compelling narrative about one young man's journey to embrace his destiny with intriguing elements.

I have no dislikes for this book. I have found no errors in this book. It is exceptionally edited. There is sexual content in this book, so I don't recommend it to young readers. Additionally, there is profanity present. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it weaves together elements of fantasy, romance, and self-discovery in an engaging manner. I highly recommend this book to adults who love thrillers.
