[Following is a volunteer review of "The DrugTech Trilogy" by Marcel Victor Sahade.]
I rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.
"The DrugTech Trilogy" is a surprising and epic-length thriller that delves into the collapse of a pharmaceutical company embroiled in nefarious acts, including suppressing a cure for cancer. The novel initially presents as a collection of three short but captivating stories with fantastical and unsettling premises. Each story unfolds over just a few pages, drawing us in with enigmatic plots and unexpected twists before gradually revealing their interconnectedness.
Among these mysterious tales are glimpses of DrugTech, a shadowy entity entwined with scientists conducting brain transplants and exploring the existence of the soul. The narrative also introduces diverse characters, each navigating their enigmatic circumstances. As the stories progress, the boundaries blur between real and fiction, leaving us and characters questioning the true nature of their existence.
As the trilogy unfolds, recurring characters and themes emerge, transforming the disparate stories into cohesive chapters of a larger narrative. The overarching plot begins to take shape, centring on DrugTech's insidious agenda and its implications for humanity. Alongside these revelations, the narrative weaves in unexpected elements, including references to the Ottoman Empire's naval fleet, adding complexity to the storyline.
While the novel's sprawling structure may challenge some readers, particularly in keeping track of the characters introduced throughout the trilogy, Sahade's inventive storytelling and disquieting scenarios keep the reader engaged. The gradual unveiling of DrugTech's machinations and the ethical
predicaments its characters face add depth and intrigue to the narrative, inviting readers to ponder the moral implications of scientific advancement and corporate greed.
Although some characters may not be as vividly rendered as others, and their recurrence may sometimes lack impact, the overall level of invention and creativity displayed in "The DrugTech Trilogy" is commendable. Sahade's ability to seamlessly blend genres and deliver unexpected plot twists ensures readers remain captivated until the final pages.
In conclusion, "The DrugTech Trilogy" offers a captivating and thought-provoking exploration of the pharmaceutical industry's darker side, wrapped in a tapestry of mystery, suspense, and speculative fiction. Despite its sprawling nature, the trilogy delivers a satisfying and immersive reading experience, leaving us pondering the ethical difficulties of pursuing power and profit.
