[Following is a volunteer review of "Twisted Threads" by Kaylin McFarren.]
5/5
"Twisted Threads" by Kaylin McFarren is a romantic suspenseful murder mystery novel. I was very captivated by the premise of the novel, since I love a good mystery, so this seemed like the perfect novel for me. I will say, in the beginning of the novel, it was almost entirely an erotic story about the main characters, Akira and Devon. I was taken aback by this but saw how it added a depth of complexity to their characters, making them more complicated and lifelike. In fact, all of the characters felt fully fleshed out. They all felt human, with imperfections and vices but also characteristics that made you hope they would not be next on the chopping block. Once the action started to pick up, it became impossible to put down. I was on the edge of my seat trying to see if I could figure out who the murderer was before the characters could. No matter how much I looked into every detail, it still took me completely by surprise. There were twists and turns almost every step of the way, but what really took the cake was the ending. An amazing plot twist that turned the story on its head and made it a race against time. There was plenty of violence and erotic content, and none of it was left to the imagination. The pacing of the novel does start off slowly but it quickly picks up the pace and stays that way until the end. There were times the characters seemed to get over things more quickly than expected but overall this was an amazing book. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for their newest thriller. I will say it may not be for everyone, as mentioned there was very descriptive erotic content multiple times and the violence while more tamed still was graphic.
