“The Process of Living: Make Your Dreams Become Your Reality” by Bill DeBarba is a short, easy-to-read book about what DeBarba believes is the unconscious process that the human brain uses to reach goals and achieve ambitions. DeBarba states that his process can be helpful or harmful because these goals are determined by one's feelings and thoughts. In “The Process of Living: Make Your Dreams Become Your Reality” he attempts to teach others how to use this unconscious process consciously for their benefit by managing their thoughts and feelings.
The book itself is concise but engagingly written. His language isn't stiff or boring as some self-help books can be. DeBarba included ample personal stories and anecdotes while expounding on what he called “The Process” in his book “The Process of Living: Make Your Dreams Become Your Reality.” I have rated this book a three out of five stars. While the writing itself was good and engaging, Bill DeBarba seems to have failed at citing his sources. On page 87 he quotes Pope John Paul II without citing his sources and there are other borderline instances throughout the book that may have been a lack of proper citations on his part. Additionally, I just did not like this book. “The Process of Living: Make Your Dreams Become Your Reality” was another self-help book, claiming that by using the process of visualization and manifestation, you could have anything you wanted. This book is steeped in New Age and Prosperity Gospel language, which is exceptionally hard to take seriously. Additionally, there were several instances where DeBarba made bold claims that this Process was a proven method without giving any corroborating evidence or studies. For this book to be at least a four out of five stars book, proper citations would need to be added and DeBarba would have to include evidence to back up some of his bold claims.
