Since Science Fiction is not one of my favorite genres, I wasn't overly excited about reviewing this book. That lasted until I was half way through the first page. From that point, I had trouble putting it down.

The author, Arture Riojas, is a retired after thirty-five career in industrial, consulting and academic arenas. He posses four engineering degrees. Two are in the chemical field and two are in the civil field. He has worked all over the world, primarily in South America but, also in Central Europe and the Republic of Korea.

He has taught both grad and under-grad students at the University of Texas as San Antonio.

It turns out that he is also an excellent story teller, as well.

The book is actually broken down in an unusual manner. Each chapter is concluded with facts on cadmium poisoning, a subject held dear by Riojas. He states in the book's preface that readers are free to skip that portion of the chapters if they so desire. The subject is a small, but very important, part of the story. It is doubtful that many will want to skip the facts.

The first few chapters of the book set the stage for the story, Each chapter introduces a character or characters setting the backdrop. It is necessary and can be boring. Not in this book.

The first chapter opens with an alien space craft hovering over the city of Atlanta. It introduces us to the first alien, Egroeg from the planet Treretum. That planet is 8.6 light years from Planet Earth. Egroeg is a member of the Drutsab Clan. Treretum is comprised of two clans. The other, the Kcalb Clan.

Two members of this clan, Suturb and Nivla are introduced in the first chapter as well. Though both clans inhabit Treretum, the Drutsab clan considers themselves far superior to the Kcalbs. However, the Kcalbs are physically superior to the Drutsabs.

To explain, the crew from Treretum are on a mission to Earth to follow up on seeds they planted eons in the past. They had searched Earth for humans they considered advanced enough to listen to advice on how to improve their planet and themselves.

All of you Area 51 buffs will enjoy the story as will any familiar with stories from Native Americans from centuries ago which told of strange visitors.

In the first chapter, Egroeg, the commander of the mission, is upset to learn from Suturb that Nivla has a personal mission he wishes to complete on this trip. His brother and two others were in a space craft that crashed and the bodies and the craft were believed to be hidden in Area 51 tucked away in a remote and highly secret, well guarded area in the Nevada desert.

The first stop for the aliens is at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention located in Atlanta. This is where two characters to be introduced shortly work. They are highly involved in cadmium poisoning and its research.

In Chapter Two, we are introduced to Olga Ramos, an aeronautical engineer and Stanford grad now working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California.

We also meet her best friend, Cuauhtemoc Gavilan. He is also an aeronautical engineer. They are preparing to attend the annual Stanford Pow Wow, which is where the pair met during Olga's junior year.

Olga has become very concerned about the dangers of cadmium poisoning and the plethera of illnesses probably associated with it and its treatment and how diet affects it.

Gavilan provides a bit of the comedic tough laced through the story. He, along with Olga, are the two central earthlings central to the story.

Which brings us to the third Chapter and introduces us to Sam and Dr. Welch, both with the CDC in Atlanta. They are the other two characters central to the story. Dr. Welch is also an expert on cadmium poisoning and how real and widespread it is and the consequences of it on Americans.

The four meet at a conference. Olga, Sam and Dr. Welch are attending the conference to participate as presenters. Gavilan meets Olga there to driver her from Houston back to Stanford for the Pow Wow.

In the name of not giving away important plot twists, let's just say the conference turns out differently than the three participants expect and puts their lives in danger, unbeknownst to them at the time.

After the conference, they all meet to discuss the events alluded to in the previous paragraph and then go their separate ways.

With Olga and Gavilan heading from Houston (the site of the conference) to Stanford for the Pow Wow, Gavilan has a surprise for Olga. He has arranged with a friend who operates hot air balloons to take them as close to Area 51 as they can get so she can film the area. They are tailed by a secret agent who was obvious enough for the two to notice.

Sam and Dr. Welch were intercepted on their way back to Atlanta from Houston by more secret agents who refused to identify their agency. They were questioned and their luggage was searched and they were threatened.

This brings the four back into contact as they try to make sense of it. The cadmium poisoning is the only thing they seemingly have in common. But, why would a governmental agency be concerned about the research and dissemination to the public of their findings?

Is it necessary to say that two of the humans meet Nivla? As they are in their hotel room after the flight near Area 51, which earned them a military escort out of the area, discussing the event, they are startled by the very sudden appearance of Nivla.

Again, not wanting to give away the story, Nivla is interested in teaching the humans. He is also interested in their help in learning what they learned about Area 51 so he can retrieve his brother's remains.

With the introduction of aliens to the humans, events turn even more dangerous for all involved. Sam and Dr. Welch venture to join Gavilan and Olga and eventually meet Nivla as well.

Yes, Nivla and two drones successfully gain access to Area 51 and retrieve his brother and the other two crew members. There is more drama among the crew of the space craft that leads to a mutiny of sorts. Olga and Gavilan have to flee, with some alien assistance, for their lives. And all are left with gifts from Nivla to assist with their mission here on earth.

As I said, this is a great read and difficult to put down until the last page is turned. Without going into the details on cadmium poisoning, let's just say that the author makes a strong and convincing argument that everything from Type 2 diabetes to many cancers can be linked directly to cadmium poisoning, as can Alzheimer's. And, it turns out that the treatment does not rely on Big Pharma or expensive treatments. But, you must read the book yourselves for that info.

Get this book. Read and enjoy it. And then, share it with your friends. Even those following a regimen of organic foods and other healthy concepts will be surprised to learn the possible poisons they are consuming. Be a good friend and share this with them. But mainly, read the book! You will thank me.
