[Following is a volunteer review of "Play Golf Better Faster: From Weekend Golfer to Pro Golfer in Two Years" by Kalliope Barlis.]
This book does an incredible job of highlighting the skills and qualities required to become a professional golf player. It not only focuses on the physical aspects needed to pursue this sport but also does a phenomenal job of mentioning how mental strength is a vital aspect required to ace this game. This phenomenon can be held true for all our real-life experiences as well, since mental health plays a very crucial role in any job or work we do.
A few things that I loved about the book were that, despite it being a guide to playing golf, certain aspects of the book applied to our day-to-day lives, like having strong conviction and belief in yourself, anchoring good experiences, moving on from bad experiences, maintaining a routine, and ways to achieve our desired target being few amongst the many. A line that stuck to me was "All experiences have value when you decide to learn from them". It gives a very meaningful message: gather all the good and bad and apply the learnings gained from them to move forward and upward. It wonderfully highlighted the importance of strategic thinking. Another point the book made was that success is not measured against others but rather how much better you did today than yesterday. Also, the exercises at the end of the chapters were very useful and insightful. The book also had diagrams to explain various scenarios of golf that will be beneficial for a new golfer, like the position of the golf club, grip on the club, and different positions while playing golf. The editing of the book was very good, as I couldn't find any mistakes.
The only thing I disliked about the book was that a few of the chapters felt repetitive, which could have been avoided. For the above-mentioned reasons, I rate the book 4/5.
