Phobia Relief. From Fear to Freedom is a book authored by Kalliope Barlis, an expert in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. The book introduces Neuro-Linguistic Programming as a technique used in treating phobia.
In my opinion, Phobia Relief is a valuable resource for individuals seeking an introduction to Neuro-Linguistic Programming and its practical applications. The References section at the end of the book provides a factual foundation for the content and facilitates further research for the reader. The book provides helpful distinctions between fear and phobia, shedding light on the fact that most fears are learned and, therefore, can be unlearned. One of the key takeaways is that the author highlighted how to use the book. Phobia Relief can be a good tool for self-care exercise, especially in the case of irrational phobias. But, as the author stressed, readers having any concerns regarding their mental health, should seek help from a professional.
I found it to be engaging and concise to read. The author presents a refreshingly straightforward approach to a complex topic without getting overly complicated. Moreover, a humorous tone and incorporation of the author’s actual client experiences contribute an approachable and captivating element, which readers could find both pleasurable and inspiring.
The structure of the book reminded me of school textbooks based on the idea of learning by repetition. It includes a comprehensive set of useful tips and practical exercises in each chapter, reinforcing valuable lessons. The author emphasizes the importance of positive thinking, not only for overcoming phobias, but also for improving various areas of life, and encourages self-exploration.
I enjoyed reading Phobia Relief. This book is something way beyond traditional self-help books. It was easy to read, informative, and well-written. It included humor, practical exercises, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques. I gladly recommend and rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
