[Following is a volunteer review of "Love Letters to the Virgin Mary" by David Richards.]
TITLE: LOVE LETTERS TO THE VIRGIN MARY
AUTHOR: DAVID RICAHRDS
RATING: 3/4
REVIEW:
Love Letters to the Virgin Mary: The Resurrection of King David by David Richards, a book with double narration and it is divided into five different kinds of books. The book’s main narration is related to mysticism and religious beliefs, means it tells how the narrator connects himself to the divine. The language is poetic, relatable as if someone speaking in real life and telling his beliefs, faiths and experiences. The experiences of the narrator are totally indulged in the narration. He doesn’t hold back his thoughts. Narration is totally intriguing and engaging in perspective of normal life of people.
The study of author’s biography, his own reflection of life and how life unfolds in-front of him with questioning of Jesus’s life, the two narratives: one is of a Spanish Soldier and other that of a child connecting himself with Jesus. The first narrative, tries to express his love towards his late lover, Mariah and his love for their kids. Is he mourning over her death? Or he is trying to reconnect with his children? These are the questions that he is trying to solve throughout the narration.
The second narrative has been plunged in war games, imagination beyond human life. He is finding his connection with Jesus, father David and mother Mary. The imagination and reality seemed to be running all over his head. Will he be able to connect to Jesus? That should be found in the book.
I would recommend reading it. The book is great in its narration and clarity of thoughts. Narrator doesn’t hold anything in his back of mind. He is trying to solve his mystery of life with own experiences, deeds and understanding of life. I see in this a child even in the 50 year old man. His love for fantasies and Thor like movies and imagination, it’s a great way to learn to have a little child inside all of us and we never should try to hide it.
I would love to give it a Three stars out of four.
About the narration, there were, I felt, few confusions between narration shifting and it took me a while to connect whenever I started a new chapter. The poetic style in between the narration felt overwhelming that maybe narrator wanted to be added them in his book. But I felt it like introduction of poetics inside the book maybe not necessary.
Book’s editing is fantastic and I never found any error that need to be corrected. Overall, it’s a good book to read and learn musings of life.
