Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids

[Following is a volunteer review of "Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids" by Jemima Paul, Arvind Paul.]
"Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids" explores an introduction to Christianity for kids and aims to explain the concept of Heaven and Hell to children. The book is great at explaining aspects of Heaven and Christianity in a story-telling way that make it easy for children to comprehend and understand, while also being entertaining enough that it captures their attention. Although the book is successful in the teachings of Christianity and very informative on religious matters, it has a few downsides. First, the novel is extremely black and white. It tells you what heaven and hell is, and doesn't leave any room for young readers or parents to form their own views on Heaven and Hell. It strictly tells readers what it is, which would be a downside for parents with children who are still navigating their own beliefs. Thus, this book feels a little indoctrinating at times. Second, this book is not for sensitive readers and is arguably unsuitable for younger children. When exploring what Hell is, the book is quite dark and heavy. For a children's book, it talks about uncomfortable aspects of hell that may be too much for young children. Third, this juxtaposition of Heaven and Hell may motivate young children to be more well-behaved and encourage their religion, but it can also be taken the wrong way. By glorifying Heaven to this extent, it makes it seme better than the real-world, which might make children want to die in order to visit Heaven. The message to children can be misconstrued. Finally, although the story-telling is great for comprehension, the sentence structure is a little advanced and difficult for young children to read on their own. A parent would have to be present to read this.
